Vietnam History Day at Battleship Cove

Saturday August 5th 10a-4pm
Join Battleship Cove as we delve into the history of the Vietnam War, honor the sacrifices of our troops and give thanks to the veterans still with us today on Saturday, August 5, from 10:00am – 4:00pm at Vietnam History Day.

Over 2.6 million American men and women served within the borders of South Vietnam during the war and in recognition of our troops, all Vietnam Veterans will receive free admission all day long.

Peek inside the Bell UH-IM Iroquois helicopter and learn about its two tours in Vietnam and tour the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., which houses an official war memorial to those who served in Vietnam. The museum will also offer their signature FUNshops and educational programming throughout the day:
Huey Helicopter showcase

Our Bell UH-1M Iroquois (aka Huey) helicopter saw action in the Vietnam War and has the battle damage to prove it. Learn about this machine—the most widely used helicopter in the world-- from veteran crew chiefs who served during the war.

Helicopter Flight Funshop
More than 5,000 helicopters flew in the skies above Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and they did everything from medical evacuations to air assaults. Make your own helicopter out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands, then launch it.

Helmet Graffiti Funshop
Soldiers wrote and drew on their helmets as a way to express themselves during the Vietnam War. Make your own “graffiti” on a plastic helmet in this FUNshop. Helmet available for purchase in the gift store for $5.00.

In Country: A Tour of Duty during the Vietnam War
A hands-on display focusing on the daily life of the combat infantryman during a tour of duty in Vietnam. View and touch weapons and equipment such as a poncho “hootch”, helmet and flak jackets, jungle boots, military maps and compass, and grenades.
